Thony Loui

Anthony Louis-Jeune, known in the art world as Thony Loui, is a visionary multimedia designer, comic book creator, and author originally from Port-au-Prince, Haiti. His work unites artistry with advocacy, creating compelling stories that champion environmental justice, cultural pride, and social resilience. Over the last 15 years, Anthony has pioneered the representation of Haitian and Black superheroes, using powerful narratives to amplify underrepresented voices on a global stage.

Spider Whale Studios began as Anthony’s creative outlet and has since grown into a mission-driven platform that combines art with activism. As a color-blind artist with deuteranopia, Anthony overcame unique challenges in visual design, pushing creative boundaries to deliver bold, vibrant art that speaks to the heart of social issues. Anthony’s journey in storytelling took root at the renowned Altos de Chavón School of Design in the Dominican Republic, where he earned a degree in Fine Arts and Illustration, followed by mentorship under comic legend Rich Buckler. His first creation, Djatawo—Haiti’s first superhero—was a cultural breakthrough, earning acclaim at the 5th Ibero-American Design Biennial in Madrid and an interview with Conan O’Brien on Netflix’s Conan Without Borders or Youtube.

However, Anthony’s most celebrated creation is Tanama, an environmental heroine dedicated to empowering smallholder farmers and inspiring climate action. Launched in partnership with the U.S. Embassy, Timberland, and the Smallholder Farmers Alliance, Tanama has become a national symbol in Haiti and a global ambassador for resilience. Through comics, murals, billboards, and social media, Tanama has led major awareness campaigns, including Haiti’s COVID-19 response, influencing millions and transforming art into a tool for change.

Today, Spider Whale Studios continues to produce impactful stories for global audiences, especially Black and brown communities, with a cast of characters that includes Djatawo, Red Scarf, Detective Caesar LaCroix, Zeen, and many more. The studio collaborates with organizations, artists, and activists, focusing on stories that blend rich cultural heritage with pressing social issues. As Spider Whale Studio expands, Anthony’s goal remains clear: to create art that educates, inspires, and unites people in a shared vision of a better, more inclusive world.

Follow Spider Whale Studios as it embarks on this journey, where art and advocacy go hand in hand to celebrate resilience, amplify voices, and inspire positive change.
