EDUCATIon

The education element of the Tanama Project starts with the comic book series, which will be distributed free of charge to participating schools in Haiti.

The possibility of similar programs in other countries is being explored. As the first volume in the series shows, this is first and foremost a comic book that is meant to entertain. But woven into every issue will be themes addressing trees, smallholder farmers and gender equality. But the idea is that these concepts are embedded in the story and not identifiable to the reader as “content.” And this is where the education component comes in. Tanama will be the “presenter” in a companion booklet that is the same size and with similar graphics to the comic book series. But the education companion booklets will address the three central themes: trees, smallholder farmers and gender equality.

On the inside back cover of Tanama Origin is a message from Tanama that sets the tone for the education companion booklets. These will, in turn, be accompanied by flip charts that take the same images as in the booklets so that teachers can effectively present the information to students. The overall Tanama Project package for schools will include the comic book series, the education companion booklets, flip charts and teacher curriculum guides.
